I had been looking forward to this past weekend so much that I'm incredibly sad it's over but I'm
still smiling thinking about how fantastic it was. With the help of
Instagram, let's recap...
At the beginning of last week Jason planned a date for us on Saturday. It was nice because it's something that we actually planned in advance, like dates used to be before you get married, work 40+ hours per week, become homeowners and have to be adults. Usually our dates are thrown together, something like "I don't feel like cooking so let's go out to eat." Or they are outings that include family and friends, which is nice don't get me wrong, but Saturday was all about us.
When Jason got home from work we headed out for the 45 minute road trip to begin our date. We started with a little Target shopping since we don't have one in our town
[Maybe our town would be more stylish if we did have a Target. Just sayin']. Anyway I had been lusting over the new Sam Edelman collaboration
[Sam &Libby] and was dying to get my hands on a certain pair of sandals. They had them, they fit perfectly and they are mine!
After picking up a few other things we headed to the movie theater to see Iron Man 3. First let me say I'm not really an action movie kind of girl. But I do love Batman and I enjoyed the other Iron Man movies so I was just as excited as Jason was when the new one was released. So of course we had to see it as part of our date day. It did not disappoint! I'm really wishing we would have done an Iron Man marathon beforehand by watching the first two so I could remember exactly where we left off.

After the movie it was time for dinner. Our town also doesn't have an Olive Garden [Ridiculous. I know.] so it was a special treat to go as part of our date day. It was typical dinner time when we arrived and of course the day before Mother's Day, so there was a long wait in a crowded, small lobby. We were hungry and totally impatient but it was well worth the wait once we were seated. We chatted, we laughed, we indulged. I had the Chicken Roma [From their website: chicken breast tenderloins sautéed in a savory wine butter sauce with
roasted bell peppers, spinach and bacon, tossed with bucatini pasta and
parmesan cheese]. It was delicious and something I've never had before. We even splurged and ordered Zeppoli for dessert [From their website: soft, traditional Italian doughnuts dusted with powdered sugar, served with chocolate sauce for dipping].

After our bellies were full we headed home to catch the second half of the Pens game. The game was a nail biter ending with a score of 3-3 which meant even more nerves in overtime [Although we almost missed it because we both dozed off waiting for overtime to begin]. But it was our lucky weekend and they pulled out the big W to clench the series!
Sunday morning we got up early and prepared to host Mother's Day lunch. My parents, along with my sister and D came to our house to celebrate one of my heros, mom. We made some of her favorite dishes and showered her with small gifts of thanks. I truly am blessed to have such a close relationship with my mom. She's so much more than just mom to me. I would not be where I am today without her. Love you, Mom!
Finally, to end the weekend on a high, Jason and I tuned in for the Survivor finale. I don't care how old school I sound, it's still my favorite realty TV show. I've only missed I think 3 episodes ever of Survivor throughout it's 26 seasons. And since I'm such a fan, I was rooting for ultimate-fan Cochran to take the title. I loved him the first time he played and even more so this season [I like nerds, what can I say?!]. He played a great game and so deserved the title!
And that was my weekend. I'm still on a high. The quality time out and about with my love was so perfect. Yes we spend every weekend together but this was different. We weren't home working on the yard or painting the trim or just grabbing take out. We planned a date. We splurged on ourselves. And we enjoyed every well deserved minute of it [I love you, Bub!].
What did you do this weekend? Did you go on a date with your better half? Did you celebrate Mom?
